We had a wonderful turn-out for this meeting with four fabulous femmes joining us for the first time. In attendance: Ecstacy, Gayla, Julie, Trouble, Dianne, Christina, Leslie, Stephanie, KC, Amba, Hildi & Debra.
Topic of Discussion was “Family and Gender Issues for the Femme”. We had quite a lively discussion of parenting, children’s issues, and family acceptance among the group. The discussion grew spontaneously as family issues always seem to magnify during the holiday season. We have quite a range of views and life situations represented within the group, some with their own children, others having the opportunity to co-parent, others wanting to adopt, those happy to be an aunt, and of course those who would never think of being a parent.
Debra reported on the potential costs of doing a “Winter Ball” for the Butch-Femme Socials group. The group agreed that risking too much money on an event with uncertain attendance would not be wise. After some discussion, we decided to contact the Bench & Bar to host the event. The theme is, “West Coast Winter Wonderland!” We’d like to decorate it beautifully, have some great munchies, possibly rent tables & chairs, and make it really wonderful and unique event. We will be putting together a group to help with planning and decorating and will be meeting early in January. Those interested in volunteering please contact Debra at Qdebra7@aol.com
We also had one of the best clothing and gift exchanges ever, with a fun dressing frenzy in the bedroom!! Everyone went home with a new outfit or gift for the holidays.
The next Femme Posse meeting will be the second Saturday of the month (since the first is a holiday!), Saturday, January 8 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Ann's house in Berkeley. Her address is 2800 Acton Street, at the corner of Oregon Street - three blocks north of Ashby. It's about a 20 minute walk from the Ashby BART.
The meeting topic is "New Year's Hopes & Dreams for the Femme"; and how we can support each other to make them come true! As always this will be a potluck, so feel free to bring a dish to share -- or not -- we'd still like to see you there. We’ll also have the usual clothing, gift, book, etc. exchange – so bring anything you’d like to give away.
For those planning ahead, the following meeting will be Sunday, February 6, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The topic will be "A Day of Beauty". That's right, it will be a hands-on day. . . bring your make-up and hair-do accoutrements. We'll spend the day sharing, hair, make-up and clothing accessory tips among a fantastic group of femmes. And of course what will naturally follow is a discussion of dating tips . . . as we prepare for the big date night, Valentine's Day. This will be a meeting you won't want to miss! (Location TBD)
